Here Comes Santa Claus...
(Nation Newspaper, December 19th 2005) picture

Thirty children got a special treat yesterday as DivePro Barbados, based in St Lawrence Gap, Christ Church, staged a Christmas Aquatic Fun Day in Carlisle Bay, St Michael. The events for the children, aged eight and above, from Sayes Court and Haynesville children's homes and those under the Child Care Board's foster care programme, took place on a pontoon boat sponsored by Ocean Adventures. The highlight of the day was the arrival of Santa Claus by jet ski!

AWARE Kids July 2005 picture

DivePro is committed to raising awareness of environmental issues and educating people on how to make a positive impact on the shores and reefs around Barbados.

With this in mind DivePro not only practices eco friendly diving every day; we recently organized a four day AWARE Kids program which we hope to make an annual event.

aware kids What is AWARE KIDS?
AWARE Kids is a concept supported by the Project AWARE foundation, an affiliate of the Professional Association of Dive Instructors (PADI). The name Project AWARE stands for Aquatic World Awareness Responsibility and Education. It is a non-profit making foundation set up to educate anyone who enjoys the water on how to protect this important resource.

DivePro believe that there is no better place to start educating people than with young receptive minds. Over the four day program we taught the Project AWARE course, we invited a member of the Coastal Zone Management team to give a presentation and conducted a beach clean up and BBQ with water based activities for the participants. We also organised a reef research and survey in conjunction with Coastal Zone Management and held a 'try diving' session in the pool followed by a certification party at the end of the program. The 60 Kids that took part were between the ages of eight and fifteen.

How much did the program cost?
Believe it or not, all this was free; Project AWARE is our chance to make a difference.
